So I was catching up on some music industry news and I stumbled across this article on Forbes about why the definition of the platinum album needs to changes particularly to include streaming plays as part of the standard for certifying albums as gold, platinum, etc.
Although I am personally against this logically this is a sound move. Last year only 3 albums went platinum by selling a million copies these are The Frozen Soundtrack, Taylor Swift’s Album and J. Cole’s Album. This year only 2 albums sold a million units and those Drake’s and Taylor Swift’s 1989 and 1989 was released in 2014! I agree with this article when it says that if the RIAA doesn’t change it’s standard for platinum records the title may be nothing more than an unobtainable goal.
