A New Suit & Dabbing for My City

I know I’ve been silent for a while but I’ve been taking the time to refresh myself. Boy am I refreshed and I have some stories I’d love to share.

First the New Suit. I decided a wardrobe make over was long overdue so I decided to get me a suit in order to have a more professional look. I prefer wearing button up shirts any way so it wasn’t much of a stretch. Here’s a selfie of me in it. (Follow my Instagram @jamesrevelsiii)

Second, My friends and I were walking down in Oregon District, a small strip of local businesses. We walked out the store and a lady with a camera asked if we wanted to have picture taken for Dayton.com so we did and we decided to dab for our species! (Shown below)

Hey Ya! – Chilling with the New 11

Lately, I’ve been quiet because the studio has been full as well as hanging with local band “The New 11”. They are an acoustic band that plays unconventional such as African flutes, bongos, jaw harps and much more.

Here’s a behind the scenes look at the practice and below that is the final video production. Support their channel by subscribing!

Arsenic

By: James Revels III

Take a sip of these syllables as they settle in your heart like arsenic.

My name in the tree of life carved in. This intentional flame arson then.

As far as I came only look back when checking pedometers.

Flow spill out of me like broken glass or a colander.

Quotes in quilted patterns held together by sutures.

You haul me out I relocate your like a mover.

Succeeding now or later, though I prefer sooner.

Flirt with lady luck, though mother nature’s much cuter.

On this boat of life, we all know that death rows.

Capital punishment for he reward of joy, I suppose.

Uploaded to the Over-soul, These words I download.

The wisest men are the ones who say the most with their mouths closed.

So that makes me a fool, cool like frost bitten fingers.

No soliciting, Advice unheeded by deep thoughts that linger.

I see red when friends are blue. Smell ya later. Burnt Cedar.

Trying to get in tune like an orchestra or a singer

Pros & Cons of Mass Media

We always hear about how TV is rotting our brains and video games making us violent, but lets take a step back and get an unbiased perspective shall we?

Pros

I think the biggest pro of mass media is the ability for shared experience. It makes the world feel smaller because we have shared experiences and references strengthening the culture as a whole.

Another major pro is the exposure for the arts and an outlet for those creative minds. Mass media also encourages collaboration which is necessary for the evolution of art.

Also, according to  the book “What’s Bad is Good for You” by Steven Johnson, he believes that the complex subplots and mechanics of video games, TV, etc help our critical thinking faculties and mental health overall.

Cons

Sadly, this connectivity comes at a cost. The major con I see with Mass media is the weakness with an system, it’s too rigid. Since, a lot of many for a lot of people are involved many of the innovations are sedated for profit. This not only makes the companies and artist unmotivated to change, but it also makes consumers numb. This is why there are so many reboots and sequels that sell and tend to disappoint most people.

The final con is geared towards informational rather than artistic media. Mass media has the power of misinformation and sensationalization. News outlets have to ability to  cause mass panic or distract the people from problems at hand. Although, it does have to power to unite, it usually doesn’t help the rating which is why it doesn’t happen often.

There’s my thoughts on the Pros and Cons of Mass Media.

Advanced Music Theory – Measure Grid

As a composer I’ve found the current system of writing music perfect for playing music but conveys little about the music theory structure. I usually make graphs and charts in graph paper notebook, but I decided to take my work to excel and made this little beauty. Let me know what you think. I’ve never explained this before so if you have any questions leave a comment
