The Musical Sketchbook

As you know I’m doing a daily music creation challenge on my YouTube Channel, but I have a lot of sketches and pre-orchestrations (songs using the Synthesia stock sounds.) I decided to start a playlist for all of them, which I embedded below.

My Prediction on the Future of the Music Industry

With the music industry slowly running out of ways to monetize itself with the advent of file sharing and streaming services, it is evident that the music industry is in a rut. Seeing that only two albums went platinum and sold a million copies  this year being Drake’s “If you’re reading this it’s too late” and Taylor Swift’s 2014 release 1989″ (last year it was 3 albums) it’s clear that either music industry has to innovate or crash. Seeing how there’s loads of money involved in this whole music thing I lean towards the innovation idea. My theory is that within a decade or so the music industry will revive itself via holographic concerts. “How?” You ask. Well, say Jay-Z was performing in real time at in Madison Square. If you were to simulcast a hologram of that live concert to different venues, but with heavily reduced tickets prices you’d be able to have a concert with the biggest turn out ever! Not only would it cost venues less, because all they would have to do is set up the tech and let it play. It would increase revenue for the artist/label because instead of having a sold out stadium of just tens of thousands, you could essentially create a concert with an audience of MILLIONS, for ONE night of performance. Although, currently the technology isn’t up to par for it quite yet but, it’s already being implemented they’ve already had holographic concerts for Micheal Jackson & Tupac. Even living artists such as Chief Keef have used hologram tech already. So, in 10 or 20 years when the next music crazy is holographic simulcast, Let everyone know that I called it!

Music Creation Challenge Day 18 – Flow

So I’ve decided do a daily music making challenge where I try to make a short 1 to 2 minute theme daily. I then create a visual version using the program Synthesia for my YouTube channel. Today’s piece is titled “Flow” .

I’m no longer using the stock sounds of Synthesia and using my normal program “Reason 8” and editing it to the video of synthesia from here on out.

Let me know what you think I’d love to here from you. Subscribe to get the latest piece send directly to your YouTube feed.

Overcoming Creative Blocks

Everyday I post a daily short music composition to my YouTube Channel and sometimes I’m asked “How do you keep from getting creativity block?” My answer is to create despite the block and have the attitude that your creations are a form of expression as opposed to something to show off and be loved. Let me explain, most people I talk to say they hit a block say they feel like what they try to make isn’t “satisfactory” or something that isn’t worth sharing. What prompted my daily music making challenge was that I would start a piece and it would sound good but I would think to myself “Is it catchy enough?” “Would people like this?” or “Does it have enough bass”,etc. until I realized that I don’t make music to show off my music skills, because there will always be someone better. I also don’t make music for everyone to love it because that’s unrealistic and sometime people don’t even know what they want themselves. I make music to express myself through my auditory imagination. It’s like a poignant poem, but instead of words I use sounds. In conclusion, If you are blocked keep creating even if it’s a short disorganized mess make it any because you never know it may be the next diamond in the rough, but you’ll never know if you abort the idea prematurely.
