Other than mixing down music and composing I’ve been working on my video editing skills on a series I’m calling “A Guide to Music Composition. Here’s as snippet from the script s well as a short video snippet underneath.
Hi, I’m James Revels Composer and thanks for watching “A Guide to Music Composition”. Together we will be exploring the routine I use as a guideline for creating my music. I assume that you already have a general knowledge of music theory so that I can reduce jargon in order to be more accessible to new or non-musicians.
The step in the guide are:
Creating a Rhythmic Motif
Choosing a Scale
Creating a Theme
Mixing the Track
Apex is an RPG I am working on using the program RPG Maker. I created it as a way to show case my music as well as my love for math via game design. Although, I have been working on this project for a few years now, I know I still have years to go before I get it to the perfect state I want it. So, in the meantime I’ll gather hype about the game slowly, but surely with updates including music and articles like this. Without further delay, the synopsis…
Ever year on the planet of Atmos, there is a tournament held to determine the strongest warriors on the planet. These warriors are called the “Apex Warriors”. You and your two childhood friends Liliana & 6 Eyed Jack spent your entire lives training to fight in this tournament. The game follows your journey as you explore the planet of Atmos to grow stronger in order to protect your title as Apex, year after year.
(Below is a pic of the world map, a video with pre-alpha play footage and a music video for a theme of Atmos)
Here’s the world map theme to this RPG I’m creating called “Apex” it’s still a long way from being finished, but I throughout the week I will post more information to flesh out the world and game. So, Stay Tuned
The rounds of Apex are set up and ready to play, Next step is deciding what to do once you return to your home town after beating the tournament.
Some features I’m planning on implementing:
-Weapon/armor upgrades slots (operational)
-Learn new skills in menu by paying gold or maybe other currency (planning stage)
-Mutually Exclusive Alignment System – depending on your choices throughout you gain “light side” & “dark side” points, but they are mutually exclusive meaning you the dark and light points don’t effect each other.
Ex. you have 20 dark and 20 light. normally you’d be neutral and get 0 different speech choices. In Apex, you’d have an extra 2 dark and 2 light responses despite both being even.

Nadir (Your home town)
I promise you guys I’m not dead! I’ve just been preparing some in-depth projects that required a lot of time and concentration. This one I’m working on is called “Apex” and RPG maker game that I’ve been slowly working on over the last year or two in order to showcase my love of game design and music since most people say my music would be great for video games. They upgraded RPG maker so I had to transfer all the info over from there postponing my video.
Apex is set on a planet where they have an annual tournament to determine who the strongest warriors of the land are called the “Apex Warrior”. The point of the game is explore the planet while defending your title as Apex.
So. I haven’t posted an instrumental to my YouTube channel in almost a week because I was working on this beauty (in between partying for the new year). Usually I make instrumentals only 2 minutes or less, but his one I was trying something new. I was practicing my orchestration of a theme and a counter theme between various ensembles in order to play with textures and layering.
